About Jacob
Jacob B. Pyle is a partner at Townsend Pyle LLP, where he works alongside Managing Partner Eric D. Townsend representing policyholders and people who have been seriously injured, for clients throughout California.
Jacob came to the law by way of engineering. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, then went on to the University of San Diego School of Law, where he received his J.D. in 2009. That training shapes how he approaches every case. Engineers learn to ask how things work, why they fail and what the evidence actually shows. Those are often the very questions that decide an insurance dispute or an injury claim.
In fire and smoke cases, that background helps Jacob look past an adjuster’s summary to the physical reality of a loss. Smoke and soot travel through ductwork, wall cavities and attic spaces in ways a quick walk-through can miss. Heat can affect framing, wiring, plumbing and mechanical equipment long after the flames are out. Because Jacob understands how building systems fit together, he can spot when an estimate leaves out work a home or business genuinely needs, and he challenges a claim’s valuation line by line instead of accepting a number on faith.
The same discipline carries into questions of causation. Whether the issue is how a fire started, why a carrier calls damage “pre-existing,” or how a serious injury happened, Jacob works through the facts methodically, bringing in qualified consultants when a case calls for it. Insurance companies lean on technical language and confident-sounding reports. Jacob is comfortable meeting them on that ground, and just as comfortable translating the details into plain terms for clients, adjusters and, when it comes to that, a judge or jury.
Above all, Jacob believes that people who pay their premiums deserve to be treated fairly when the worst happens. He takes the time to listen, explains each step clearly and keeps clients informed as their case moves forward. For families displaced by fire, and for people facing a long recovery from a serious injury, he brings patience, precision and a firm commitment to holding insurance companies to the promises they made.
At Townsend Pyle LLP, clients work directly with Jacob and Eric from the first call.
